What Sunstone is — and is not
Sunstone is
- A nonprofit project administrator, facilitator, and mission steward
- A convener of landowners, developers, agencies, funders, and residents
- A grant-funded source of planning, education, and technical assistance
Sunstone is not
- The developer, general contractor, property owner, or landlord for AAHP
- A housing authority or voucher administrator
- A guarantee that any proposed project feature or funding source will be realized
Why we do it
Sunstone began when community members supporting the Ashland School District explored whether mission-driven public land could help address the housing pressures affecting families, employees, and enrollment. That work led to the Ashland Attainable Housing Project and established a repeatable role for Sunstone: steward the landowner's vision, organize partners, secure planning resources, facilitate transparent community engagement, and keep complex housing work moving.
Sunstone now applies that same connective, project-management approach to complementary housing strategies, including RogueADU, an Ashland-focused initiative supporting small-scale infill housing through free guidance, technical assistance, and community education.
The nonprofit is entirely grant funded, and our work is provided at no cost to the landowner. We have board members and an executive director who are personally driven toward supporting equity and opportunity through housing, and we have developed relationships with many local organizations and individuals also invested in housing justice.
We recognize that each project's needs are different, so communication early and often is crucial to establishing trust and understanding. Sunstone is determined to build and maintain community partnerships that combine the resources necessary to create places that house individuals and families in comfort, stability, and beauty.
